'Tis the season
This morning I made it into work at 6:30am.
That also translates into BEFORE THE ASS CRACK OF DAWN.
Holy moly I've never been here this early! I'm leaving at noon though so I guess it all evens out. The only reason I even attempted to trekk my lazy ass in so early is because I had to drop off Mel by 7:00am and Lauren needed to get to the airport early for her flight back down to Florida. She's not leaving permanently, just for the holidays. She said that she'd be back for at least two weeks after the 2nd of January and guess where she'll be crashing?
Brace yourself. The "other woman" shall be staying with us at our townhouse. I know, when did you ever think you'd hear that that was happening? It turns out though that I must have gotten to know Lauren on the wrong day of the week or something because after getting to know her, it turns out that we get along quite well. We have loads of the same interests and she's an awesome shopping partner. We've already been confused as being sisters once and it didn't annoy me or make my skin crawl. All in all, a happy ending.
Also, our friendly intern, Emily, shall be returning today. Yep. It looks like we'll have the whole gang back for the holidays. Her now boyfriend, Bart (you remember him, right?), has been here already for a week or so. They've all been transferred up to the fifth floor anyway to work with Momma and apparently Bart has been extremely helpful. That's always good to know.
So today after Miss Emily arrives, I'll do the polite catch up bit with her, perhaps have lunch if she wants to, and then head on home where I will begin to wrap up Christmas presents. The sad part is that I've hidden them all in random places all over the house and I'm afraid that I won't remember where they all are. I'll end up finding them two months later. I guess it'll be even more of a surprise that way.
Yesterday was our Christmas potluck. It started off with a bang, literally. One of the guys who was trying to help light the mini-burners had one of them explode once he took the flame to it and somehow managed to set his foot and some of the carpet on fire. It turns out that they had to break out the fire extinguisher and everything. The man was fine, but we can't really say so much for the carpet. Everything was postponed just for a bit until we could clean up all of the soot that had landed on all of the tables and chairs. Luckily all of the food was covered so all was not completely lost.
This past Wednesday was Minnie's birthday celebration. Most of the regular happy hour folks left work early and headed over to Bungalow Billiards, which is where Sammi Jo got her groove back. Yes ladies and gentlemen, in the words of J-Kwon, I got tipsy. It was a nice change and felt damn good. Minnie actually got a new nickname too which I think is fitting. She will now and forever be known as Mama-mina. A DJ began to play songs around 9:00pm and I made two requests; first, he had to play "Light my fire" by The Doors, and second, he had to wish Mama-mina a happy "23rd" birthday. It was fabulous, and once he made the announcement, we all cheered while we watched her laugh and cover her face with her hands. Cutest thing I've seen all year? Quite possibly, yes.
If I haven't said it already, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Hanukkah, and all that jazz if you celebrate. Be safe y'all and take it easy.
